CitySquash's Summer Program enrolls almost all of our 120 students, ranging in age from 7 to 18.
Day Camp
CitySquash hosts two six-week summer day camps at Fordham University – one for elementary school students, the other for middle school students. Both camps combine academics, squash, travel and culture. Enrollment in the day camp includes approximately 50 CitySquash team members.
Overnight Camps
Most of our team members attend overnight squash, academic and wilderness camps during the summer. The squash camps most frequently take place at Northeastern colleges, such as Princeton, Wesleyan and the Naval Academy. The academic programs take place at sites such as Rye Country Day, Kent and Westover. Outward Bound hosts numerous CitySquashers every year on its courses throughout the country. Every August, the entire CitySquash program heads north for four days at Camp Monserate in Lake Placid, hosted by the Reiss Family.
Summer Match
Through our own Summer Match program, which is modeled after the Fresh Air Fund, CitySquash sends team members to live with host families outside the city for weekends or longer. Summer Match pairings have taken place in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. 15 CitySquashers participated in Summer Match in 2008. A record 27 families hosted 58 CitySquashers through Summer Match in 2009.
Employment
We provide our high school and college students with the opportunity to explore their career interests and find gainful employment. Students are partnered with organizations in industries ranging from financial services to health-care for paid internships, or they are granted jobs with CitySquash itself. The program fosters personal and professional growth and ensures that our high school and college students are active and engaged during the summer and the school year.
