6th grade boys compete in their first tourney
6th grade CitySquash boys participated in the BU-13 event at Greenwich Round Hill Club tourney this past weekend. Michael Kelly reached the quarterfinals, and Gabriel lost a hard fought battle in five games in the semifinals of the consolations. Among the new players, William Pantle won a match, and Markel Nunez won a game!

Juniors4Juniors raises money for CitySquash
Seven CitySquashers performed bravely at the 2008 Juniors4Juniors Millennium Open, hosted by the Sports Club/LA and managed by Eddie Kapur. Among other results, CitySquasher Jocelyn McKenzie won the GU-13 girls consolation draw. The gold event drew some of the area's best junior players and raised more than $4,000 for CitySquash, courtesy of the efforts of 13 year-old Gabriella Garr.

Melissa wins Westchester Junior Bronze!
Melissa Garcia's hard work and dedication to improving her squash game has certainly paid off! This past weekend, she won the GU-13 event at the Westchester Junior Bronze tourney. Elementary school team members are also showing great improvements. In the GU-11, Mellba finished 4th, and in the BU-11, Jeremy finished 4th and Bryson was a finalist in the consolations.

High schoolers visit StreetSquash facility
CitySquash high schoolers went down to the new StreetSquash facility in Harlem for the first time yesterday. StreetSquash won the match 6-4. Results were: Criselys 0-3; Christina 0-3; Aime 0-3; Prince 3-1; Anneudy 3-1; Willie 3-0; Benjamin 1-3; Frank 1-3; Josue 1-3. Middle school squash enthusiast Darrius tagged along and won his match 3-1. Thanks to StreetSquash for hosting us and congratulations on the great new facility!

High schoolers finish strong at Vassar & Sportsplex tourneys
Our high schoolers competed in two tournaments this past weekend. At the Vassar Junior Classic (Gold) tourney, Freddy Hernandez came in third place in the BU-19; Chris Fernandez finished fourth in the BU-17; Jesse finished third in the GU-17. At the Sportsplex (Silver) tourney, Eggie Gonzalez won the consolations in the BU-19; Nina Kelly came in fourth, Diana third, and Myriam won the GU-17.

Three new staff members join CitySquash! Please welcome Supriya Balsekar (Assistant Program Director), Shandar Edwards (Office Manager) and Dora Lubin (Director of High School & Elementary School Academics).

The Bash was a big success!
The Bash was a big success! We raised $360,000 to support our program expenses! Our heart-felt thanks to all those who contributed to making this event successful. Special shout-out to The Bash co-chairs and their committee for all their hard work.

CitySquashers dominated at the Urban National Championships
CitySquashers dominated at the Urban National Team Championships, winning 3 out of 6 titles. CitySquash teams won the BU-13, BU-15 and GU-15 events. CitySquashers also won 3 out of 8 titles at the Urban Individual Championships. CitySquashers won the BU-13, BU-17 & GU-17 events.

Six more CitySquashers accepted to boarding schools!
Six more CitySquashers were accepted to independent private schools! Doris Amoako – Canterbury School; Cris Margaret Frias – Loomis Chaffee School; Santiago Moran – Avon Old Farms; Manuela Perez – Blair Academy; Criselys Polanco – Riverdale Country School; Lanique Rhyne – Mercersburg Academy.
