Assistant Program Director

 

Job Description: CitySquash seeks a full-time Assistant Program Director starting in the Summer of 2012. The Assistant Program Director helps manage the day-to-day activities at CitySquash, while focusing on development, communications and strategic planning. S/he is responsible for managing CitySquash's calendar of events and coordinating volunteers; overseeing CitySquash's website, publications, newsletters and other PR; building on CitySquash's relationships with foundations, writing grant applications and reports, cultivating donor relationships, and planning CitySquash's fundraisers; evaluating CitySquash's practices, goals and vision and making recommendations to the Executive Director. S/he also coaches up to four sessions a week, runs the mentoring program, and tutors the SSAT. The Assistant Program Director position provides a unique opportunity to develop management skills and help build a growing non-profit organization while changing the lives of at-risk youth.  Applicants must have experience playing or coaching squash.

   

School Year Schedule (Sept - mid-June): During the school year, the work day typically begins at 10am and ends at 7pm Monday through Friday. The Assistant Program Director typically works three out of four Saturdays or Sundays and chaperones up to eight overnight weekend tournaments/trips. On weeks when there is one day of weekend work, the Assistant Program Director works a half-day on Fridays; s/he receives a full day off to compensate for a full weekend of work. The Assistant Program Director also chaperones CitySquash's week-long mid-winter tour in February and five-night trip in the summer.

 

Summer Schedule (mid-June - mid-Aug): During the summer the work day begins at 9am and ends at 5pm. There is no weekend work when school is not in session from mid-June through August.

 

Vacation: The position includes 6 weeks of vacation annually: 1 in December, 1 in April, 1 in June and 3 in August. Some but not all national holidays are off.

 

Qualifications: Extensive experience in squash is required. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

 

Commitment: Two years minimum.

 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range: $38,000-$50,000. Full health-insurance coverage.

Director of Placement

 

Job Description: CitySquash seeks a full-time Director of Placement starting in the fall of 2010. The Director of Placement assists CitySquash's high-achieving middle school students who wish to apply to private high schools. The position includes visiting boarding schools and day schools, cultivating relationships with high school admissions offices, and assisting students and families with SSAT preparation, essay writing, and financial aid forms. Once students are placed into prep schools, the Director of Placement matches them with mentors, regularly checks in with their advisors, visits them on campus, and more. The Director of Placements also runs CitySquash's summer placement program in which students stay with families outside of New York and attend squash, academic and wilderness camps. Depending on the individual's skills, the Director of Placement will also assist in CitySquash's academic program as a tutor or CitySquash's squash program as a coach

During peak periods of the year, the Director of Placement works longer hours and does a considerable amount of driving and overnight travel. The Director of Placement also works, on average, two out of four Saturdays or Sundays. On weeks when there is one day of weekend work, the Director of Placement works a half-day on Fridays; s/he receives a full day off to compensate for a full weekend of work.

 

Summer Schedule (mid-June - mid-Aug): During the summer, the work day begins at approximately 9am and ends at 5pm. There is no weekend work when school is not in session from mid-June through August, except for phone calls from time to time.

 

 

Vacation: The position includes 6 weeks of vacation annually: 1 in December, 1 in February, 1 in April, and 3 in August. Some but not all national holidays are off.

 

Qualifications: Candidates need to have a bachelor's degree from a competitive university, as well as experience working with children, preferably as a teacher, tutor and/or squash coach. Knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable, as is familiarity with Northeastern boarding and/or private day schools. Driver's license required.

 

Commitment: Two years minimum.

 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Typical salary range: $38,000-$42,000. Full health-insurance coverage.
