Abbott Cooper
Director of Special Projects
Abbott joined CitySquash in 2007. As Director of Special Projects, Abbott
has played a vital role in CitySquash's efforts to secure a permanent
site for CitySquash's proposed training and learning center. He also
works on other strategic, fundraising and development projects for CitySquash.
Abbott is also the managing member of Redancap Management Co., LLC,
an investment and advisory firm, and was previously a lawyer in private
practice and an investment banker with UBS Warburg. He received a B.A.
from the University of Virginia in 1989 and a J.D. from the University
of Montana in 1996. Abbott is an avid squash player, who lives in Manhattan
with his wife Brooke, an accomplished squash player and CitySquash supporter.
Catherine
Cueva
Office Manager
Catherine joined CitySquash in 2007. As Office Manager, Catherine does
bookkeeping, mails letters, maintains the database and organizes the
office. Catherine received her Associates Degreee in Business from La
Guardia College in Queens in 2000. Prior to coming to CitySquash, Catherine
worked as a training manager for real estate agents at Mark, David and
Company in Manhattan. Catherine also worked as a property manager for
MidBoro Management where she managed the apartment building staff, and
oversaw building inspection. A native of Queens, Catherine currently
lives with her fiance Danny and son Luke in the Bronx.
Sophie Gorlin
Director of Middle School Academics
Sophie joined CitySquash in 2007. As Director of Middle School Academics,
Sophie designs the academic curriculum, oversees the afternoon academic
sessions, and monitors the academic progress of CitySquash’s middle
school students, meeting regularly with team members, teachers and parents.
She also conducts weekly book club sessions. Sophie majored in English
and received a B.A. in 2006 from Barnard College, where she was inducted
into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. Before joining City Squash,
Sophie served for one year as a literacy tutor through the Americorps
in an under served section of Denver. Fluent in Czech, Russian Spanish,
and Sophie grew up in Boston and resides in Washington Heights.
Kathy Hill
Director of High School & Elementary School Academics
Kathy joined CitySquash in 2006. Kathy manages CitySquash’s high
school academic program, providing a college preparatory and literacy
curriculum. She also oversees the elementary school academic program.
Kathy majored in History and Literature and earned a B.A. from Harvard
College in 2004, where she was active with numerous community outreach
organizations. After graduation, Kathy taught English at I.S. 162 in
the South Bronx through Teach for America. A native of California, Kathy
lives in Manhattan.
Bryan Patterson
Director of Squash
As Director of Squash, Bryan manages squash practices and oversees the
squash development of CitySquash’s team members, leading a fitness
program, guiding technical instruction and coaching at tournaments.
Bryan hails from England, where he competed on the professional squash
circuit from 1975-1981 and was ranked as high as #2 in the country and
#16 in the world. As a coach, Bryan has been the English Boys Under
19 National Coach, Head Squash Professional at the Squash Club at CHASS
in Philadelphia and Head Squash Professional at the Heights Casino Club
in Brooklyn Heights, New York. He was also the director of the USA Junior
National squads. Bryan has one son, Jon, and currently lives in Bronxville.
Maggie Roth
Director of Placement and Assistant Director of Academics
Maggie joined CitySquash in 2007. As Director of Placement, Maggie helps
team members apply to independent high schools and selective summer
programs. Maggie also helps manage CitySquash’s academic program,
with a particular focus on literacy. Maggie majored in Spanish at Amherst
College, where she was a four time varsity letter lacrosse player and
earned her B.A. in 2007. During her time at Amherst, Maggie volunteered
as a Grant writer for El Arco Iris, an after-school program in Holyoke,
MA, and interned at Rosie's For All Kids Foundation in Manhattan. Maggie
grew up outside of Philadelphia and lives in Manhattan.

Sanford
M. Schwartz, Founder & Chair
Research Horizons LLC
Sanford founded CitySquash in 2001. A strong believer in the enrichment
program model pioneered by CitySquash’s sister programs in Roxbury
and Harlem, Sanford works closely with the CitySquash staff and Board
to improve the breadth and scope of organization. Sanford received his
B.A. from George Washington University in 1973, a Ph.D. in Sociology
from Catholic University in 1983, and an M.S.W. degree from Fordham
University in 2005. A resident of Scarsdale, New York, Sanford is the
President of Research Horizons, a marketing research firm, and previously
held executive positions at other marketing research firms, including
Market Facts, Elrick and Lavidge, Quick Test and Westat. Sanford has
his own clinical practice and is a Board member of FJC – a foundation
of donor advised funds. An avid squash player since the mid-1980’s,
Sanford claims that he is still learning how to play the game.
Palmer Page,
Vice Chair
Palmer joined the CitySquash Board in 2006. He earned a B.A. from the
University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1972 and after
graduation worked at IBM for 30 years. At IBM, Palmer was responsible
for all pricing of IBM systems and software in Asia and Australia (during
which time he played for the Japanese national squash team), and later
helped start the Commercial Finance division of IBM Credit. Subsequently,
Palmer became the first CEO of US Squash and during his tenure implemented
internet player support, restructured operations, and oversaw the Centennial
Ball, the largest fundraiser in the history of the organization. Palmer
holds three national squash titles, and in addition to squash loves
to ski. He serves on the boards of Surf City Squash and SquashEmpower
and is a member of the Church and Ministry Committee of the UCC in SE
Connecticut. Palmer has six children and lives in Pound Ridge, New York.
Jeffrey
P. Wiegand, Secretary
Robotti & Company
Jeff is a founding member of the CitySquash Board. Currently a research
analyst at Robotti & Company, an investment firm, Jeff previously
practiced law in New York City. Jeff earned his B.A. from Harvard College
in 1976, an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Michigan
in 1978, and a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1982.
While at Harvard, Jeff was a teammate of fellow CitySquash Board member
Peter Briggs and later captained the team to the 1976 national intercollegiate
team title. He is now busy raising six children in New Rochelle, New
York, and enjoys playing squash recreationally. Jeff previously served
on the board of Amistad Mission, an orphanage and mountain medical clinic
in Bolivia, and as a trustee of Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.
William
A. Douglass, III, Treasurer
“Doug” joined the CitySquash Board in 2006. In 1994, Doug
founded K2 Advisors, a fund of hedge funds based in Stamford, Connecticut.
Prior to founding K2, Doug worked in the investment business in institutional
sales, first at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities, and later
at Tiedemann International Research, Ltd. Doug earned a B.A. from Vanderbilt
University in 1984. Doug is involved with numerous nonprofit organizations
and has served on the Board of Trustees of Outward Bound USA. Doug lives
in Brooklyn, sails competitively, and has two children, one of whom
is a top ranked junior squash player.
Michael
Luskin
Luskin, Stern & Eisler LLP
Michael is a founding member of the CitySquash Board. A partner of Luskin,
Stern & Eisler LLP, Michael specializes in bankruptcy law, representing
banks, finance companies, equipment lessors and other creditors. He
is involved in numerous charitable organizations, among them the Jewish
Home and Hospital, UJA-Federation of New York, and his college and law
school alumni organizations. He received his B.A. from Harvard College
in 1973 and his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1977. Michael lives
in Scarsdale, New York, and is an avid squash player whose energy, he
says, far exceeds his ability. Michael also sails and skis.
Robert C.
Osborne Jr.
The Osborne Group, Inc.
Robert joined the CitySquash Board in 2005. As vice president of the
The Osborne Group, Inc., Robert advises not-for-profit organizations
on campaign planning, leadership and major gifts, annual giving, board
management, and marketing. Previously, Robert was director of development
first at the New York based St. Aloysius School, then at the Center
for Constitutional Rights, also in New York. A published writer and
experienced grants writer, Robert serves as a member of the board of
Brooklyn Community and Housing Services and the Neighborhood Economic
Development Advocacy Project. A resident of Manhattan, Bob graduated
with a B.A. from Cornell University in 1993. Bob became addicted to
squash, he claims, on the first day that he was introduced to the sport
in the spring of 2004.
Peer T.
Pedersen Jr.
Blue Orchid Capital
Peer joined the CitySquash Board in 2003. A managing partner of Blue
Orchid Capital, a fund of hedge funds which he co-founded in 2003, Peer
has spent his career in finance, working at firms such as the Pearl
Street Group, Credit Suisse First Boston, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette,
NatWest Markets, and PW Group, Inc. Peer earned a B.A from Dartmouth
College in 1978 and an M.B.A. from Wharton in 1983. A co-founder of
the Steamboat Foundation, Peer is also on the board of trustees of The
Brunswick School, and he is a former board member of The Hotchkiss School
and St. Vincent’s Hospital. Introduced to squash in college, Peer
has been a devoted player ever since and in 2003 he won the 45+ U.S.
Doubles Nationals Championships with fellow CitySquash Board member
Peter Briggs. Peer lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Gillian
Steel
Gillian joined the CitySquash Board in 2003. After receiving her B.A.
from the University of Colorado, in Boulder, in 1972, Gillian worked
as an assignment editor at CBS's WBBM-TV in Chicago. Upon receiving
a master's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism
at Northwestern University in 1981, Gillian was a copy editor at Crain's
Chicago Business, also in Chicago. Now a resident of Greenwich, Connecticut,
Gillian has been a Greenwich Academy trustee, and is currently on the
boards of the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx and the Boys and
Girls Club of Greenwich. Gillian learned to play squash in Chicago,
and remains an enthusiast, regularly watching her daughter Charlotte,
who plays for Brown University.
